AVOCADO HASS & FUERTE
Scientific Name: Persea americana
Avocado cultivation is presented as a great production and export alternative for the country, since there is a potential market in the United States and nearby countries such as Chile and Colombia. Unlike other countries, Ecuador can produce avocado all year round, with fully defined production and harvest peaks from February to March and from August to September, while other nations produce in a period of only 4 to 5 months of the year.
Hass Avocado (Persea americana) originated from a seed of a Guatemalan race Gay Rudolph Hass orchard in Habra, California in 1926, patented in 1935 and introduced overall market in 1960; is the most widely cultivated variety worldwide and was introduced from Ecuador to Chile thanks to our involve avocado farms venture. The wide acceptance of Hass in most world markets has strengthened the demand for fruits and black leather relative to those rough green and smooth skin.
Features: The Hass variety has an oil content of between 18 and 22%.
In addition, the proportion of water is low, barely 60-70%. The content of vitamins D and E is considerable.
Both the fruit and the seed are relatively small, with a combined weight of 160 to 300 gr. The skin is slightly rough, slightly green to blackish when in the tree; at once harvested is going to becoming purplish black as the fruit softens when ripe, so that consumers recognize the optimal time to consume.
The fruit is of an excellent quality, no fiber, high resistance to transport and postharvest longevity.
